The Mandla city is located in the loop formed by the Narmada River and its tributaries; situated here is the historical Ramnagar Fort / Mandla Fort which was constructed by the Gond Kings in the late 17th century. Located nearly 24 kms from the Mandla city it is also called as Moti Mahal and an architectural marvel and is known for its three- storey strategic design. The cleverly designed fort was built on the banks of the Narmada River so that the river formed a natural defence from three sides. When on a trip to Mandla do not forget to visit this historical place.

Kanha National Park

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Mandla, the Kanha Tiger Reserve or National Park is located in the Maikal Hills of the Satpura mountain range. Given the status of a national park in 1955, Kanha is also known as the tiger land, with several tigers & tigresses inhabiting the region. Being reserved forest hunting is strictly prohibited here. Providing a safe place for the rapidly declining population of tigers the Project Tiger is being implemented here with complete sincerity. Wild Dogs, Indian Barasingha, Spotted Deers, Leopard, Swamp Deer, Sambar, Wild Pigs, Grey Langur and over 300 species of birds are the other inhabitants of this region. A must see place for the wildlife enthusiasts; one can take a jungle safari either on open jeeps or by elephant rides. Shravan Chita, Shravan Tal, Macha Dongar & Bamni Dadar are other places of interest in this park from where one can get a breathtaking view of the sunset. There is an orientation centre/museum and grasslands of Mukki and Sonf which further engage the tourists and provide them all the interesting trivia about the amazing tigers.

Ghats at the Bank of River Narmada

The river Narmada surrounds the Mandla city from three sides giving it an un-matched natural beauty; constructed on the banks of river Narmada are various Ghats which attract visitors from far & wide. Some of the famous Ghats include the Rangrez Ghat, Rapta Ghat, Nav Ghat, Nao Ghat and Sangam Ghat; these ghats are not only for recreational purpose but also have religious & historical significance. Many small temples, streams of the river, old & new bridges and a beautiful view of the sunset make the visit to these Ghats complete.

Sahastradhara

Narmada, counted as one of the sacred rivers of India flows through the city of Mandla. On reaching near Mandla the river flows on a rocky bed and its currents are so numerous that the spot is known as Sahastradhara literally meaning thousand flows. A very popular destination amongst the tourists and locals alike the place showcases a unique natural beauty formed by water dripping from thousand deep narrow channels of magnesium, limestone and basalt rocks forming an amazing grid like pattern. A Sahastradhara Temple is also located here where people come to pray in large numbers.

Garam Pani Kund

Situated at a distance of nearly 18 kms from the city of Mandla is the famous Garam Pani Kund or well of hot water. Popular for its unique & magical sulphur rich water it is believed that water of the well was blessed by Lord Vishnu decades ago to cure the people who were suffering from plague. The place has a natural scenic beauty to it and is surrounded by lush greenery all around. Scientific studies have been conducted on this water from time to time and it has been established by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) that the water in Garam Pani Kund can cure certain skin diseases. So the Garam Pani Kund in Mandla is a place of religious & medicinal importance and is visited by hundreds of people every year.

Begum Mahal

Located nearly 3 kms away from the Mandla Fort/Moti Mahal is another fort called the Begum Mahal. Constructed in the honour of Rani Chimney, this Mahal or palace has a beautiful three storyed rectangular masterpiece reminiscent of the Mughal style of architecture. The Begum Mahal was built from black stones which were brought from a spot known as Kala Pahad situated 4 Kms away.

How to Reach ?

Mandla is well-connected all means of transportation be it roadways, railways or airways thus making it very easy to reach the city and nearby places of tourist attraction. The Mandla Fort Railway Station falling under the South Eastern Railway Zone serves the city with a number of trains passing through Mandla. It is directly connected to cities like Nagpur, Jabalpur, Raipur, etc. A road network comprising of National Highway NH-12A & other arterial roads connect the city to other parts of the country. If you wish to travel by air the nearest airports are Nagpur & Jabalpur situated at a distance of 250 kms & 165 kms respectively from Mandla; on reaching here one can travel further to Mandla by road or train. Many government & private buses, autos, taxis, rickshaws are easily available in all parts of the city for local transportation.
